Photography
Photography is to me, yet another tool to create, to express, to lose myself in. It is categorized in my mind as the lighter side of my creativity. With studio photography, my focus is always the model. I let him or her speak to the lens in their own way; let them convey the story of images in my mind. Because of this, communication between myself and the model is fundamentally important. Every individual that I’ve ever worked with has had something truly unique to bring to the table. I want to capture that and bring it to life in a way that sometimes, neither of us is expecting.
Because I’ve spent most of my time in the studio and was really wanting to break out of that comfort zone, I took a job with a campus newspaper as an assistant photo editor. I think the plan was a success; I now have a few solid sets of performance shots and a couple other things that were obviously shot outside of my zone.
This endeavor actually gave me a documentary photography bug, which I have not pursued very heavily. It is on the many lists of things to do.
The Nature photography area is a small part of a bigger project. I’m an avid backpacker/hiker, and have just begun documenting the state parks that I visit. The plan is to photograph every state park in Missouri, and eventually cover the entire country. More info on this project can be found here.
Somehow I ended up doing a couple of wedding shoots, and those are listed here. I feel pretty blessed that they were not traditional weddings, which made them a lot of fun to do.
I’ve also just begun doing headshots. The few that I’ve done are also listed here.
Enjoy.
